White dental fillings

Tooth isolated with rubber dam prepared for dental treatment
Mgr. Valerie Burešová

White dental fillings are a modern way of treating tooth decay. Thanks to their color, they blend in perfectly with the tooth, are aesthetic and strong at the same time. Compared to older amalgam fillings, they allow for a more gentle procedure, as only a minimal amount of healthy tissue is removed during preparation.

When are they used?

White fillings are suitable for treating cavities on both front and back teeth, repairing cracks and minor chips, or replacing old, leaky fillings. Modern materials offer high durability even in chewing areas.

How does the treatment work?

First, the tooth is carefully numbed, and then the decay is thoroughly removed. After that, the tooth is isolated, for example with a rubber dam, to keep the area dry and ensure that the filling adheres properly. Next, the composite material is applied in small layers, with each layer cured using a special light. Finally, the filling is carefully adjusted, shaped, and polished so that it fits perfectly into the bite.

Advantages of white fillings

  • natural appearance and no visible “filling”
  • gentler procedure and less damage to the tooth
  • strength and long life with proper hygiene
  • possibility of precise shaping according to the anatomy of the tooth

Aftercare

Immediately after filling, the tooth may be sensitive to cold or pressure, but the discomfort usually subsides within a few days. Regular hygiene and check-ups are important in the long term to ensure that the filling remains tight and free of pigmentation.
