Premedication with midazolam

Premedication with midazolam is a method of sedation in which the child is given medication by mouth before the procedure. The child remains conscious but usually does not remember the course of treatment after the procedure (anterograde amnesia). Sedation is used in children who are uncooperative during routine examinations or whose fear cannot be overcome by non-pharmacological methods.
Indications
We choose midazolam sedation in particular:
- during extractions of milk teeth or permanent teeth,
- during treatment of multiple teeth with minor cavities (fillings),
- during more extensive treatment of a single tooth, e.g., pulpotomy (nerve treatment),
- in children who do not cooperate during routine examinations or X-rays,
- in children who have had traumatic experiences with dental treatment,
- in uncooperative children where for whom non-pharmacological methods cannot be reliably used.

How the treatment works
- The medication is administered orally before the procedure.
- The effect begins within a few minutes and lasts for approximately 30 minutes.
- After treatment, the child remains under supervision and is usually discharged home within two hours of receiving the medication.
Preoperative examination
Before administering midazolam, the child’s health must be assessed; a standard examination by a pediatrician is sufficient. Blood sampling is not necessary unless otherwise specified by the pediatrician.
Contraindications
- acute illness,
- neuromuscular disorders (e.g., myasthenia gravis),
- allergy to benzodiazepines,
- sleep apnea,
- liver dysfunction.
Warning: The effect may be influenced by a number of medications, such as antibiotics (erythromycin), hypnotics, antidepressants, antipsychotics, antiepileptics, antihistamines, opioids, clonidine, or grapefruit juice. If your child is taking any medications, it is necessary to inform your doctor.
Post-procedure observation
After treatment with midazolam premedication, the child rests in the waiting room or children’s corner for approximately one hour. They are discharged home in a stable condition approximately two hours after administration of the medication.

Baldus is a modern system for administering nitrous oxide, which ensures maximum safety and precision during sedation. The patient remains calm and relaxed throughout the procedure, breathing independently while remaining conscious. The effect sets in quickly and wears off immediately after sedation ends. It is an ideal and very well-tolerated method, especially for children.

General anesthesia
General anesthesia allows treatment to be performed in complete peace, as the patient sleeps throughout and is unaware of anything. It is suitable for more demanding procedures or where treatment under local anesthesia is not possible. The price quoted applies only to the anesthesiology part of the treatment.

Analgesic sedation
Analgesic sedation is a combination of sedatives and painkillers that keeps the patient relaxed and sleepy during the procedure and prevents them from remembering the treatment. It is a sedative state in which the patient breathes independently throughout the procedure. It is suitable for anxious patients and more complex procedures.
The price quoted applies only to the anesthetic part of the treatment.
