The period when a child’s first baby teeth begin to be replaced by permanent teeth is an ideal time to address certain orthodontic issues. Removable braces can play an important role at this stage by guiding proper dental and jaw development.

What are removable braces?

Removable braces are temporary orthodontic devices that can be taken out of the mouth at any time. They are most commonly used in children during the mixed dentition phase, when baby teeth are gradually being replaced by permanent teeth.

Their purpose is not to fully straighten all teeth, but to correct specific problems and create optimal conditions for healthy tooth and jaw development.

When are they effective?

Removable braces can be helpful in cases such as:

  • misalignment of individual teeth,
  • a narrow dental arch,
  • certain bite irregularities,
  • harmful oral habits (such as tongue thrusting).

They are most effective while the teeth and jaws are still growing and can be positively influenced.

How important is wearing the braces?

For treatment to be successful, it is essential that the braces are worn as much as possible — they are definitely not intended for nighttime use only. The success of treatment largely depends on:

  • the child’s motivation,
  • consistent support from parents,
  • adherence to the recommended wearing schedule.

The more diligently the braces are worn, the faster and more effective the correction will be.

What happens after treatment?

Once the desired correction has been achieved, treatment enters a retention phase, during which the braces are usually worn at night only. This helps stabilize the results while the remaining permanent teeth continue to erupt naturally.

At this stage, it is often enough to simply wait for the rest of the permanent teeth to come in.

Removable braces are an effective solution for children during the tooth replacement period when properly indicated and worn consistently. With good cooperation from both the child and parents, they can simplify and sometimes shorten future orthodontic treatment.

Consultation

An orthodontic consultation is the first meeting with the patient, during which the doctor examines the teeth, bite, and overall condition of the mouth. The patient learns about treatment options, the course of treatment, and its expected duration. The consultation serves to explain the procedure and answer any questions before starting orthodontic treatment.

Initial documentation and creation of a treatment plan

The initial documentation and creation of a treatment plan in orthodontics includes a complete examination of the patient, including X-rays, photographs, and scans of the teeth. Based on this information, the doctor will set up an individual treatment plan that addresses bite defects and corrects the position of the teeth. The goal is effective and safe orthodontic treatment with predictable results.

Foil apparatus

An aesthetic way to treat a wide range of bite defects. However, they are not omnipotent. Their main advantages are lower forces and generally higher comfort during treatment. The biggest advantage is easy teeth cleaning, as the aligners are removed before each meal and after eating it is always necessary to use a toothbrush – both on the teeth and on the aligners themselves. The aligners must be worn 22 hours a day.

Fixed braces

Braces and arches, fixed braces. These are necessary for certain types of defects. Working with them is effective, but cleaning is difficult and they can cause temporary discomfort for the patient. However, they allow for the correction of certain problems that other types of appliances cannot handle. With precise cleaning, they can adorn the patient like jewelry.

Removable braces

During the period when the first milk teeth begin to be replaced by permanent teeth, certain types of defects can be corrected with colored braces. For them to work well, it is necessary to be diligent and wear them as much as possible so that the problem can be solved as quickly as possible. They are definitely not just for nighttime use. A high level of motivation on the part of the young patient and consistent help from parents are essential. After treatment, the results are stabilized by nighttime maintenance, and all that remains is to wait for the other teeth to be replaced.

Retention treatment

An essential part of any treatment that ensures long-lasting and satisfactory results for many years after teeth alignment.
