At our clinic, we place great emphasis on making the first treatment as pleasant an experience as possible for the child. We believe that the right approach from the very first contact is the key to ensuring that the child will not be afraid of the dentist in the future. We know from experience that when a child knows exactly what to expect, they feel much more confident and cope with treatment more calmly. That is why we explain everything in detail and clearly to our young patients. We use special models of animals with teeth to show them step by step how the procedure will take place – for example, how a filling is made.
It will be very helpful if you get involved in preparing for the first visit at home. Play “dentist” with your child. Try to describe together what will happen—simply, playfully, but truthfully.
For example:
“We have to fix the tooth so it doesn’t hurt. First, we’ll rub a special gel on the gum to numb it. Then we have to numb the tooth too, so we’ll press a bitter numbing agent onto it. We’ll hide the tooth under a little cape to keep it dry. Then we’ll shower and clean it, which will make a little buzzing sound. Finally, we’ll fill it with white plasticine and shine a blue light on it to harden it. At the end, we’ll polish everything and check if the tooth doesn’t hurt when biting. And that’s it!”
This way, you help your child build confidence and imagine the treatment as a game that has a beginning, an end, and a reward.
During treatment, children can watch a fairy tale on a screen right in their chair, which helps distract them and calm them down. After treatment, there is a small reward for bravery, which every little patient deserves.
Child patients need not only professional but also very empathetic guidance. We strive to create a safe, caring environment where even the first dental treatment can take place without fear—and sometimes even with a smile.
We will be happy to prepare you for your first examination at our SKUSTO educational center. Here, we have trained nurses who will tailor the content of your visit to your requirements. You can prepare here for both the initial examination and the treatment your child will undergo—midazolam, baldus. The nurses will also show you the correct technique for cleaning teeth and play educational games with you that build confidence in children.
