Tooth discoloration in children

Black Stains

Pigmentation is caused by anaerobic bacteria that are able to precipitate iron from saliva. These deposits adhere to the surface of the tooth and a dark pigment is formed. These specific bacteria are not harmful and usually replace themselves over time with others that no longer cause pigment. We can help ourselves by taking probiotics - such as Biogaia, which will help to renew the microflora. Pigmentation will not disappear on its own, we need to clean it first at the hygiene clinic and then take probiotics. Pigment formation can be reduced or stopped completely, but sometimes the process needs to be repeated several times.

Food / post-drug pigmentation

Pigmentation is most often formed from dark foods or drinks - in children it is most often from drinking fruit tea. Pigmentation is deposited gradually. They can be easily cleaned again by sanding or depuration with a toothbrush at the dental hygienist.

After drug pigmentation

Pigmentations can also appear after a child has been ill, especially if they have been taking medication, especially in the form of syrups.

Medications that can cause tooth discoloration: Antibiotics - Ospen, inhaled corticosteroids, analgesics, antiepileptics and others.

This form of pigmentation can also be easily removed at a dental hygiene clinic.
