Teeth brushing in older children

Cleaning in children 3-12years

Which tools to use?

Again, we choose brushes not just by colours and pictures, but by the hardness and arrangement of the fibres. We recommend soft brushes with a small head and straight-cut fibres, e.g. Curaprox Kids.

A solo brush from Curaprox Single 1006 is very good for finishing. It has a small head that is easy and dexterous to handle, and it can also clean all areas of the tooth really thoroughly. The solo toothbrush should be used especially when erupting permanent teeth. At this time, the tooth is still partially covered with gum tissue and plaque is deposited underneath, which must be removed.

It is also possible to try sonic toothbrushes. You can try the Philips Sonicare for Kids sonic toothbrush. For children, brushing can be more interesting and fun.

Don't forget interdental cleaning, if your child has had all of their temporary teeth cut and the teeth are touching, you need to start brushing with an interdental brush. The molars are especially important as they are the last to change and so we need to make sure that they don't develop decay. Temporary teeth naturally have gaps in the front section, so it is enough to brush with a normal toothbrush, if the teeth are close together you need to brush with an interdental brush and floss in the holder - flosspick.

If you don't know how to brush, we will be happy to choose a customized tool for your child and teach you everything at a checkup or dental hygiene appointment.

Which toothpaste?

Toothpaste is most commonly divided into fluoride-free and fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride-free toothpastes have no effect on tooth enamel. We recommend using small amounts of fluoride toothpaste, approximately the size of a pea for children 3 years and older. Teach your child to spit out the toothpaste from a young age.

Fluoride-free toothpastes:

Apadent Kids (contains hydroxyapatite - against tooth decay)

Buccotherm BIO 3+

Fluoride toothpastes:

Elmex 0-6

Elmex Junior

BioMin

Buccotherm Bio Junior

Curaprox Kids

How to brush teeth?

Remember that the most important thing is the cleaning technique. Parents help children to brush their teeth ideally by the age of 12. We brush once a day with interdental brushes.

Tip: Young children can lie on a cushion in our lap and brush their teeth from behind. For older children, try a position where the child sits in a chair in front of us and tilts their head back slightly.
